Exercise 2:html 101

My website on the image arts ftp

made this one from scratch, then used the “HTML Tidy” on the W3C website:

used an html editor program called “Pagebreeze” and used a template with this one:

Websites: The Good, The Bad… & The Ugly

I’ll start off by roasting this first amature website, http://www.homestarrunner.com/sbsite/ . This page contains everything you don’t want your website to have. When the page finally loads you get bombarded by way to many irrelevant moving gif’s, while at the same time a loud sound clip reading out the page title plays (whether you like it or not). There’s a cheesy scrolling text conveniently letting me know that the website is still under construction. As well as one broken gif with the curious title, “long haired freaky cheat”. In conclusion, I believe this website was made as a mockery to other similarly bad websites, but still none the less displays everything one would not want to have on a serious website.

On the other side of the spectrum I found this delightfully fun website, http://www.neave.com/ . Now this is the pinnacle of internet technology at it’s finest. A nice interactive flash based menu with quick html coding working seemlessly in sync. While this website also has some sound effects, they are less obnoxious and more fun to play with. Everything is clearly labeled and easy to find, it contains different multimedia applications such as games and video effects. It even has a star map navigator! Needless to say all the links work and there are no broken gifs, this is the work of a designing professional and certainly something to work towards.

Establishing my Digital Footprint

So I got started on expanding my footprint, I created a Twitter account and am starting to follow some of my favourite music artists and friends. I also just remebered about an old Tumblr account I made earlier this year, I have since updated it and put my full name in the description so hopefully these sites will start to show up on google searches. My myspace still isn’t coming up though for some reason, I think it’s about time I threw in some html meta tags with my name to make it easier to find.

Establishing my Digital Footprint

Assignment 1: Web 2.0 Digital Footprint

My digital footprint.. I guess i have a small shoe size (haha corny joke :D) because I only got one lowsy link that related to me! It was a link to my old grade 8 myspace page, wow embarassing I can’t believe the music I used to listen to! Turns out there’s a guy with the same name as me taking up a whole page of google results. Anyway, I edited my old myspace and tried to make it more up-to-date.

Would I want an employer or teacher to see this? what would I want it to show and say?

I wouldn’t mind if a teacher or employer saw this information because its basically a personal interests page. I guess it would be beneficial if my employer saw a portfolio of my work or a resume.
To be honest I’m a little uncomfortable with things like “Google Profile” where you put all kinds of personal information out on the public web, I don’t want people to be able to creep me on google… at least facebook only allows friends to view my page.
